Barbara Marx Hubbard and Dr. Marc Gafni: an Evolutionary Whole Mate Relationship
This is an introduction to the work of Barbara Marx Hubbard and Dr. Marc Gafni, written by students to clarify their unique contributions to the work of One Mountain, Many Paths.
Barbara and Marc met 5 years before Barbara passed. As Barbara said so often, “before I met Marc I was sure that I was done”. Barbara had taught so beautifully for decades, focusing particularly on a powerful articulation of conscious evolution. Indeed, it would not be inaccurate to say that Barbara was the greatest storyteller of conscious evolution of her time.
Conscious evolution was also a premise in Marc’s thinking, but drawn from an entirely different set of sources and experiences. Barbara drew from the classical sources of Evolutionary Spirituality, such as Teilhard de Chardin, Buckminster Fuller, and many others related to those schools. Indeed, she was closely associated with Fuller and was perhaps de Chardin’s most ardent intellectual devotee.
Marc drew a somewhat different vision of conscious evolution from the interior sciences of the great wisdom traditions, with primary emphasis on Hebrew wisdom and Kabbalistic sources.
Both Marc and Barbara moved to integrate their teachings with the contemporary sciences.
Marc however focused his attention on an entirely different dimension of reality, what he began to call together with colleagues CosmoErotic Humanism, understandings of the Intimate Universe, Homo Amor, Unique Self and Unique Self Symphonies, God as the Infinity of Intimacy, Eros and the CosmoErotic Universe, and distinctions like Role Mate, Soul Mate and Whole Mate, the Four Selves, Evolutionary Love, Outrageous Love, Evolution: the Love Story of the Universe, First Principles and First Values, Evolving Perennialism, the Evolution of Love, and many more are terms articulated by Gafni and shared with Barbara in their conversation, study, and creative engagement.
Some terms they coined together, for example “a planetary awakening in love through unique self symphonies”, where Gafni described Unique Self Symphonies, and Barbara aligned her vision of a planetary pentecost to Marc’s vision of Unique Self Symphonies.
Other key terms were unique and articulated by Barbara, for example conscious evolution, teleros, or telerotic, from joining genes to joining genius, regenopause, vocational arousal, birthing of humanity, synergy engine, and of course her work around what she called the Wheel of Cocreation.
Ultimately, Marc and Barbara attempted to synergize their work in what they called the Wheel of Co-creation 2.0.

In general Barbara and Marc experienced themselves as merging their respective dharma, into what they began to refer to as Conscious Evolution 2.0 or CosmoErotic Humanism.
These first 129 episodes of One Mountain, Many Paths took place in the last period of Barbara’s life and reflect the depth and texture of the stunning evolutionary whole mate meeting between Marc and Barbara.
